Pulmonary fibrosis in an aluminium worker.
نویسنده
چکیده
e In Great Britain there have been no reports of pulmonary fibrosis due to particulate aluminium. On the contrary, the Medical Research Council's Industrial Pulmonary Diseases Committee in 1936 investigated 50 workers exposed to aluminium dust and were unable to find any evidence that it caused fibrosis of the lung. Hunter, Milton, Perry, and Thompson (1944) studied the health and environment of 97 duralumin propeller grinders and concluded that there was no evidence that it occasioned any disease of the trachea, bronchi, or lungs. Eloquent testimony to its innocent reputation is the fact that coalminers have been deliberately exposed to this dust (Lancet, 1956) with the intention of preventing pneumoconiosis. On the other hand, in Germany (Goralewski, 1947) and Canada (Shaver, 1948) cases have occurred which have been recorded in a growing literature which has been summarized by Perry (1955).

Early and late preventive effect of Nigella sativa on the bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in rats: An experimental study
Objective: Pulmonary fibhrosis is a disease of the connective tissues in the respiratory system. Nigella sativa has been used for the treatment of pulmonary diseases like asthma. This study investigated the early and late preventive effect of methanolic extract of N. sativa on a bleomycin- induced pulmonary fibrosis model. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out using 52 rats. Pulmona...
متن کاملBeneficial effects of N-acetylcysteine on protease-antiprotease balance in attenuating bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in rats
Objective(s): The role of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) as an anti-oxidant in attenuating bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis has been reported. However, its effect on parenchymal remodeling via regulating the protease-antiprotease balance is not fully defined. Therefore, the present study was designed to explore the possible role of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP), tissue i...
متن کاملAluminium Pneumoconiosis. I. in Vitro Comparison of Stamped Aluminium Powders Containing Different Lubricating Agents and a Granular Aluminium Powder.
The discrepancy in previous reports of the action of aluminium on the lung may be explained by differences between stamped and granular aluminium powders. A stamped powder of the variety causing pulmonary fibrosis showed a brisk reaction with water, but a granular powder was unreactive. This difference is primarily due to the granular particles being covered by inert aluminium oxide, the format...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester (CAPE) on Amiodarone-Induced Pulmonary Fibrosis in Rat
Treatment with amiodarone, a commonly prescribed antidysrhythmic agent, is associated with pulmonary fibrosis (PF) which is a commonly progressive and untreatable dieases. Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is a phenolic antioxidant and an active anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant component of propolis (bee glue; a resinous hive product collected by honey bees). In th...

All available workers engaged in bagging an artificial crystalline aluminium silicate--the kiln-dried residue from the calcining and water extraction of alunite (a hydrated sulphate of aluminium and potassium) that is currently classified as a nuisance dust--were studied after a complaint of respiratory and systemic symptoms, including arthritis, by an employee of the factory, who showed physio...
